But the percentage of affection is increasing day by day. There is no specific cause for GDM. The exact cause is not known yet. But it is commonly described as the production of hormones and the modified levels of hormones cause increase in resistance to insulin. This in turn causes the impaired glucose tolerance level.
When a pregnant mother has GDM, babies are at the risk of delivery complications due to increased body weight and size, low blood sugar as soon as born and jaundice. However this condition is treatable when detected earlier.
